GAME MANAGEMENT REPORTS

HOME TEAM REPORT NEXT HOME GAME
  4 June
Manchester Titans Original chain crew were junior players and went away at half time, and did not report for the second half, leaving HL having to brief a new chain crew, who proved to be less than adequate for the 2nd half.
The pitch was well marked but with very long grass.
Referees changing rooms not really adequate for four / five referees, but able to move to other changing room once vacated by visiting team.
09/07/06
East Kilbride Pirates No Hash Marks, No Team Area, No Coaching Box. Chain crew very slow when required to move chains. Only 1 ball person. 11/06/06

GAME ASSIGNMENTS

Pete has had to issue yet more amendments for 25th June - see http://bafra.org/members/assign/index.htm.

2006 STAFFORDSHIRE SURGE VENUE

We have been advised that Stoke Rugby Club is now the permanent venue for the Staffordshire Surge. As the venue does not close at 6.00pm they will now kick off at the regular time of 2.30pm.

HEAD COACHES REPORT CARDS

Since the start of the senior season I have only received Coaches Cards for around 20% of the games we have covered. As such, can we all ensure that Coaches are given cards before the game and that we reiterate the need for them to complete and return them either by post or by handing them to the Referee after the game. If anyone needs more Coaches Cards please contact me at training@bafra.org.

BAFRA FORUM

You may have noticed that we are receiving some silly updates on the BAFRA forum. With Paul Sutton's assistance, I am removing them as fast as they arrive. In order to cut down the number of these, I have had to amend the forum so that only registered members can post, and also that a confirmation must be made before an id can be set up. Hopefully this will cut down the silliness.

I have also deleted a number of ids that do not appear to be valid - if I have deleted yours then I apologise and you will need to create it again. Please try to make it more obvious that you are a BAFRA member.

NEW RECRUITS

Over the last couple of months I have put together a “New Member Training and Administration Team” tasked specifically with managing all the new recruits. The team, as indicated below, will work mainly within their own regions contacting new members, setting up an initial meeting, arranging Mentors and monitoring the Induction Training Programme through to completion.

COMPETENCY EXAM

As some of you will know, before any new official takes to the field a Competency Exam must be completed. Recently I have received some completed papers from new members who were given a copy of the exam by Officials unauthorised to do so and it subsequently turns out that they have been issued an older version. Now we have the New Member Training and Administration Team in place, any future Competency Exams will be issued by the relevant Training Support Officer. If you have a copy of the Competency Exam I would ask that you either delete or destroy it.

MORE EURO ASSIGNMENTS

Congratulations to Phil Cottier and Martin Cockerill who were invited to officiate the NFL European School Flag Tournament in Dusseldorf last week. Phil worked the final where Spain beat Netherlands. England won the 3rd place playoff against Germany.

PLAY OF THE DAY

The running backs for Coventry were having it all their own way against a defense finding it difficult to stop the run. Half way through the fourth quarter however they finally stopped the runner after he had thrust, jinked, spun, dodged his way through and was heading for yet another score his pants fell down and tripped him up.

FIELD AUDITS - INITIAL RESULTS

After the first month of the senior season, about half the teams still hadn't played a home game so it's a bit hard to talk about leaders in the table. However, there have been a few teams who have scored in single figures and so are close to the elusive "perfect 0". These include Nottingham Caesars, Redditch Arrows, Oxford Saints and Cambridgeshire Cats. The highest score recorded so far is 133, which I am giving to believe is partly because West Coast Trojans only have one goal.

CASEPLAY

Neutral Zone

Play: Can a defensive player have his hand across the neutral zone before the ball is snapped? For example, if the defensive end had his hand outstretched and it was across the ball, would that be a foul?

Ruling: The defensive player has an opportunity to get back on his side of the neutral zone before the snap. Failure to do so results in a 5-yard penalty for offside, a live-ball foul.
