Steve DAVEY 79 Bristol Aztecs FGT 2 After the play number 79 punched an opponent on the side of the head with a closed fist.
Please note: I wrote the player's number as 78 on my game card, but could not find this number on the team roster. Either the player was wearing 78 and it was noted wrong on the roster, or I jotted down the wrong number. However, from the roster I recognize Steve Davey was the offending player. 		18/06/06
J. DAWSON 35 Bristol Aztecs Youth FUC 3 No 35 threw ball which hit the Umpire on the head. When warned about this he intentionally contacted the Umpire, who threw a flag. The player then made an obscene gesture. When told he was now ejected he took his helmet off and threw it on the ground. Once at his side-line he then made another obscene gesture. tba

ROUGHING THE PASSER

There has been some discussion regarding roughing the passer on the web recently, and I give a brief outline here. For a fuller discussion, see http://www.gmcgriff.com/discus/messages/4/4160.html?1149779714.

The play: Fourth and 3 at the B-30. Passer A10 is roughed. A87 catches the legal forward pass and fumbles at the B-10. The ball rolls OOB in B's end zone.

The problem: Rule 2-25-10-d-ex2 states: Enforce roughing the passer on a completed forward pass from the end of the last run when it ends beyond the neutral zone and there is no change of team possession during the down. Seems to be a straightforward enforcement until you ask the question "was there a change of possession?". If there was then you use previous spot, if not then enforce from the spot of the fumble. Any takers?

The solution: This was passed to John Adams (NCAA "Mr Rules") who advised: "A roughing the passer penalty when the ball is subsequently fumbled by A and goes OB in B’s end zone is to be assessed from the previous spot, BECAUSE Team A had a ‘faulty’ play in the fumble OB in B’s end zone, and that is to be considered a change of possession DURING the down."
