NEWFLASH 10/06

Next week's Newsflash will be the last one before the Convention, and so will contain mostly information and advance handouts for the Convention. Accordingly, I intend to issue this earlier next week (Tuesday evening at the latest) and so will require all items for inclusion BEFORE Monday evening.

This will give people time to read them before the Convention.

Last Call

We now have more than 50 members registered to attend this year's event which is great news. Apart from those who live locally, most are staying overnight at the hotel on the Saturday. We even have 15 who are actually staying at the hotel on the Friday night.

I will be completing the Convention Packs this weekend so you have until Friday 16th March to register your intention to attend if you have not already done so. Even though you may not require overnight accommodation at the Convention Hotel, you still need to register your intention to attend by contacting Charlie at finance@bafra.org.

See Newsflash issue 04/07 for Convention details, hotel location and accommodation information. You can find a copy on the web site or click on he following link http://bafra.org/newsflash/200704.htm.

Programme of Events

You will find the Programme of Events attached to this issue of Newsflash. Any changes I make between now and the Convention will be very minor and probably only to some of the times.

Welcome desk and Accommodation

Next weeks Newsflash will be the last before the Convention and will include details on the Welcome Desk and Accommodation arrangements.

Finance Director goes to the Dogs!!!

Charlie has arranged a trip to the Dogs for the Saturday evening. If you want to go along please see Charlie on the day. Dinner is available at the race track. Please note the BAFRA Cheque Book will remain at the hotel!

If anyone wants to organise any other activities please drop me an email. How about a trip to a Curry House? I remember one year we had a trivial pursuit competition which went down well. Especially after the participants had a few beers!

Any other suggestions welcome

EDITORIAL

Playoff triple-header results in big payday
11:58 PM CST on Monday, February 12, 2007
By RANDY JENNINGS / The Dallas Morning News

The paperwork has been completed on the Nov. 24 playoff triple-header at Texas Stadium, and each of the six schools involved netted $32,000, Grand Prairie ISD athletic director Fred Clausen said.

The headliner game was Southlake Carroll's win over Euless Trinity followed by Cedar Hill's victory over Hebron. South Grand Prairie lost to Colleyville Heritage in the final game.

Clausen said 44,000 paid admissions resulted in a gate of $391,000. The UIL receives 15 percent of that amount, and another large portion pays for stadium rental.

"The amount we made was more than double our bi-district playoff game against Arlington Bowie," Clausen said. "We were pleased to be a part of it."

What did each of the five officials on the three games earn? It is calculated as follows:

$391,000/3 games = $130,333
First $20,000 = $120 for each official
Each additional $5,000 is an additional $20 for each official, so $130,333 - $20,000 = $110,333;
$110,333/$5,000 = 22;
22 * $20 = $440

Final tally, $440 + $120 = $560 for each of the 15 officials.

Not a bad gig.

GAME MANAGEMENT REPORTS

  11 March
Teesside Cougars No goal posts at either end. 90 yd pitch. An excellent game played in good spirit which went right to the wire. It was a shame one team had to lose. Players and coaches from both teams are a credit to the game.

Southampton Stags End zones only 8yds deep. Team area lines only 10ft from sideline. Goal posts tied to fence and approx 2yds beyond end lines. These are all due to restricted space within fence surrounding field. No limit lines. No numbers. Two wires stretched across field approximately 8ft from ground.

ROGER'S RHETORIC

From last week Play: A's ball, 1st and 10, on B's 12. The ball is on the left hash. QB A12 rolls to his left near the side line and, under heavy pressure, returns near the left hash on B's 19 and throws the ball beyond the neutral zone to an area where no eligible receivers are located. During A12's scramble, A67 held on B's 15.

Ruling: A's ball, 2nd and 17, on B's 19 or A's ball, 1st and 20, on B's 22. As the QB A12 had been five or more yards toward the sideline from the position of the ball at the snap during the play, this is now legal even though no Team A player had a reasonable opportunity to catch the pass and is no longer intentional grounding. The holding foul occurred behind the neutral zone, B's 15, during a running play that ended behind the neutral zone. The penalty is enforced from the previous spot, B's 12, per Rule 9-3-3-b Penalty. (SC0019)
New this week A's ball, 3rd and 6, on B's 8. The score is A28-B28. QB A18's pass is intercepted by B32 in B's end zone. A82 tackles B32 on B's 30 when he pulls B32 down by the face mask (personal foul). B62 blocked A42 below the waist in B's end zone during B32's advance. Time expires in the fourth quarter during the down.

Ruling?
