Housekeeping Notes

  • Rooms are available from 2pm on day of arrival. We will probably have a room where bags can be stored till end of day one.
  • Dinner on Saturday night is not available at the hotel, there may be a few places available, so book in asap.
  • The Arden suite will be set up as reception for the convention and everybody should report there first.
  • Coffee will be available from 9am in the Dunchurch suite.
  • The Johnsons have been allocated a double, twin and a single, these hopefully are adjoining.

I will be at the hotel from about 5pm to sort out any problems.

Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th March 2007

Its just a few days till our biggest Convention for many years. All the preparation work is done and all we need to do now is turn up and trust all goes well. The Convention Packs, Game Day Packs, 2007 Exam, 2007 Rule Book, Speakers, Presentations, Hotel Accommodation, Laptops, Projectors, Speakers (for sound), ID Badges, EFAF DVD, Caption Competition, Tea, and Coffee, etc are all in place or arranged.

Welcome Desk

The Welcome Desk will be open between 9:00am - 9:30am on the Saturday morning and will be located in the Arden Suite. Tea and Coffee will be served so get there early before they take it away

A few things will happen when you arrive at the Welcome Desk. Firstly you will need to sign-in and then pick up your personalised Convention Pack. This will contain the following items:

  • The Programme of Events
  • Handouts for some of the Break-out Sessions
  • Prints of the PowerPoint presentations we will use during the weekend.
  • EFAF DVD and a printed copy of the review notes
  • I.D. Badge
  • Game Day Paperwork Pack

You will then be shown to the Dunchurch Suite for Tea and Coffee. This is the main Convention Hall. We will start at 9:45am prompt. We have quite a lot to get through during the day so I would ask that everyone make the effort to be there by 9:30am at the latest.

Have You Booked Accommodation?

Rooms will be available from 2:00pm on day of arrival. We have asked for a room where bags can be stored until you check-in at the end of day one or at lunch time.

Do You Want Fed?

If you want dinner at the hotel on the Saturday evening you need to book this when you arrive as its already heavily booked

Things to bring

As well as yourself, please bring, a pen, a flag, a Bean Bag, and we also need a volunteer to bring a Ball. We required this for a break-out session

Disappointed Members: Changes Sometimes Happen!

Unfortunately we have a small amount of members who cannot attend due to other commitments such as work; wedding, Anniversary, etc. My thanks to them for keeping Charlie advised. They all expressed their disappointment in being unable to come along.

If anyone’s circumstances change and you find out you can attend at short notice, please call Charlie or myself and we will see what we can do if you need accommodation.

And Finally

I look forward to meeting everyone at the Convention. We have a great mix of people within our ranks and I’m sure we will all have a great weekend.

PS

Remember, British Summertime begins this weekend and the clocks go forward 1 hour early Sunday morning at 2:00am.

BAFRA PRESS RELEASE

Stingers win John Slavin Award

Surrey Stingers are the first college league winners of the John Slavin Award, presented by BAFRA to a team that shows commitment to improving the game experience for players and fans, as well as officials.

BAFRA officials have been conducting an audit of field markings and facilities at each BCAFL team's home game this season. Surrey's field markings were consistently the best.

The award is named after the long-time BAFRA official and director of the Association, who died suddenly in October 2005.

NORTHERN FINAL CREW

I am sure I am not the first only person to notice or the only person with a childish sense of humour. The crew rostered for the Northern Final had me sniggering for hours. Have a look – you must have noticed. Please please don’t put Urin and Samples in that order – its even funnier than ‘The Bowlers Holding the Batsman Willey’.

LAST WEEK'S PHOTO

I think that is a picky of me in Newsflash at the Lincoln v Lancashire friendly, not Tim Hutchins? And I know at the time I was thinking, ‘arrogant running backs really do need to be tripped’.

ROGER'S RHETORIC

From last week Play: A's ball, 3rd and 6, on B's 8. The score is A28-B28. QB A18's pass is intercepted by B32 in B's end zone. A82 tackles B32 on B's 30 when he pulls B32 down by the face mask (personal foul). B62 blocked A42 below the waist in B's end zone during B32's advance. Time expires in the fourth quarter during the down.

Ruling: A's ball, 3rd and 6, on B's 8. B62 committed a blocking below the waist foul in B's end zone after the interception by B32. A82 committed a live ball personal foul during B32's advance. Team B gained possession with clean hands. If Team B declines the penalty for A82's personal foul, Team A will accept the penalty for B62's blocking below the waist foul which would result in a safety. It would be B's ball, free kick, on B's 20. Team B will accept offsetting fouls and hope for the best. The down will be replayed. (CCA00100)
New this week As the exam is about to start, Roger's Rhetoric has been temporarily suspended.
