TRAINING RECORD BOOKSTrainee officials at the "Competent" level are reminded that they should send their completed training book to me immediately the 10 games have been completed. Once I have this I can assess your progress for moving on to being a full member at "Qualified" status.

EXCESS BAGGAGEIt was wet on Sunday. Meteorologists measure rainfall in terms of the number of inches or millimetres of water that lands on a surface. Here's another measure. On Sunday, East Kilbride Pirates flew from Glasgow to Bristol for their game against the Aztecs. It rained so heavily during the game that one of the Pirates' players said his luggage was 3kg heavier on the return flight than it had been on the way down, due to the water and mud his kit had accumulated!

BAFRA ELITE PROGRAMME TRAINING DAYAs most of you will be aware from the Newsflash Calendar, the next meeting of the Elite Programme Officials will be held on Saturday 30th June 2007 at the University of Leicester. All Officials who have been selected for the programme are expected to attend. Officials who have applied for the programme should also attend. Please confirm to training@bafra.org that you will be there. If you cannot, please let me know as soon as possible. The meeting is also open to Officials not selected for the programme, who would like to take advantage of the training carried out on the day. Let me know if you want to come along. In next week's Newsflash I will provide more details on the venue, directions, programme of events, times and accommodation arrangements for those who require an overnight stay. The meeting will form part of BAFA's Inaugural Convention which will feature many topics key to the development of the sport. As one of our principal aims is to improve the standard of officiating in the UK, it is important that we play our part in making the event a success. On the Sunday, the following sessions are planned:
If you would like to attend any of these, let me know and I will pass your details on to BAFA. The same goes for anyone who wishes to attend the BAFA Dinner on the Saturday evening. We will be organising a BAFRA table (or two) for those who wish to come along. The cost is £25 - please advise any special dietary requirements. So get the date in your diary and I'm sure we will all benefit from attending.

| Bath Cardinals | Medical provision arrived 35 minutes after the scheduled kickoff and then it consisted of a doctor in a car. The car was not equipped with stretcher or splints so therefore the game was cancelled as the minimum medical requirements were not met.

| Chiltern Cheetahs | Field laid out as a parallelogram.
5 yard lines washed away with the rain which made lateral marking of the ball very difficult.
With a fence in close proximity to the end line, we insisted on padding the stanchion nearest to the end zone.
Part of path intersected endzone, covered with crash mat and declared out of bounds.
No changing room available for officials, used a corridor. Only 1 ball person supplied by home team.

| Bristol Aztecs | Kickoff delayed 15 mins awaiting ambulance.

| London Warriors | Goals were soccer goals with extended uprights. Warriors played in black shirts, Blitz in dark blue: the difference was obvious close-up. Changing room locked on arrival, waited about 25 minutes for it to be opened. No coat hooks, would have been an extremely tight squeeze for a 5-man crew. We were told it could be locked and left our bags there, and then told just before the coin toss that they could not lock it: the kickoff was delayed by five minutes while we retrieved our bags. Chain crew was changed at half-time.

| Reading Renegades | Reading has a 100 yard pitch which was perfectly marked. On the negative side, it is about 150 yards away from the locker room. Game Management was not available until right before kick-off including the game balls. Chain crew was not the best to be found and two members had to be replaced during the game.

| Cornish Sharks | Goal posts had been moved to give a full 100 yard pitch but unfortunately this meant that the fixing for the goalpost was left protruding above the surface of the pitch on about the 3 yard line.
Shortened the pitch to 80 yards to compensate for this and played the game. Both teams deserve credit for playing the game in a very sporting manner and Home team management deserve special merit for the way in which they looked after and made the crew feel very welcome. Despite the long journey after the treatment we received I would recommend the trip to any other official.

09/06/07 |
| Plymouth Admirals | No numbers on field of play. Team area and coaching area marked but too close to sideline. Officials changing room wet and dirty.
Despite this both teams deserve credit for playing a good hard game of football in a very sporting manner. Also plaudits to Home team management for the manner in which they made the officials feel welcome. Henry Richardson #358 |
10/06/07 |
| East Kilbride Pirates | Yard line markings were 9 foot from sideline not 9 yards. No team area or coaching box. There were no inbound lines (hash marks). The home team provided 3 balls but these were old, worn, and not fit for purpose. Fortunately the away team were able to provide suitable game balls. Payment was also not made until we were leaving the changing area (45 minutes after the conclusion of the game).

| Norwich Devils | 90yd pitch . No Game balls presented until we had to chase them again just prior to kick off. Crew waited 40 minutes to be paid , finally paid by a member of the team so we didn't have to wait anymore. No Changing room available had to wait for teams to move out to get changed. Change to chain crew at half time.
