EUROPEAN SELECTION

I'm pleased to announce that Keith Wickham has been selected as Side Judge for the forthcoming EuroBowl final between Vienna Vikings and Marburg Mercenaries.

I'm sure you will all join me in wishing him luck for that one.

Just a note to confirm I am waiting on some final details from BAFA regarding general directions to the University of Leicester and the location of the reception area. As such, details will be included in next week’s newsflash. However if the information becomes available any earlier I will send them by email to all those who have pre-registered.

PLAUDITS

Plaudits for Essex and Cambridgeshire.

Essex kitted 18 players and were down to 16 by the middle of the second quarter. The game was played in an excellent spirit with good humour from both sets of players (only one 15-yard penalty and that was for pass interference), and the 18 Essex players deserve all the credit in the world for being able to keep playing (and requesting that Cambridgeshire keep playing and not kneel down) right to the last play.

ROGER'S RHETORIC

From last week Play: Team A attempts an on-side free kick from its own 20-yard line following a safety. B2 blocks A1 into the ball at the A 28-yard line, then the ball rolls to the A 31-yard line where B3 muffs the ball out of bounds at the A 26-yard line. A4 was off-side on the kick.

Ruling: The touching by A1 is considered ‘forced touching’ and so is ignored. The result of the play would be Team B’s ball at the 26-yard line, unless they decide to accept the offside penalty when there would be a re-kick at the A-15. Note that there is no option to add 5 yards to the result of the play as there was no run by Team B (6-1-2a).
New this week 4th and 22 at the A30, while kicker A7's punt is in the air, B44 blocks A82 below the waist at mid-field. A33 tries to secure the rolling kick at the B20, but muffs it there. The ball rolls to the B10 where it touches B22's leg. A33 falls on the ball at the B8.

Loughborough Aces£550

None of these teams will be covered next season until the debt is paid, and they either pay in advance for the season or pay cash 45 minutes before kick off. They will also go to the bottom of the list for officials along with Bath , Huddersfield and Birmingham Universities who have paid late.

We are also currently owed money by BAFA.

I will update you all each month of how we are doing at collecting in our debts.

GAME MANAGEMENT REPORTS

HOME TEAM REPORT NEXT HOME GAME
  9 June
Cornish Sharks Cornwall have rectified the problems reported previously. The Pitch is now 100 yards long with 8 yard endzones. The trip hazard has been covered, or removed.
The shirts are still illegal by rule, but accepted by the league as previously reported.
Like to thank both teams for an excellent game in great spirit.

Norwich Devils Youth No separate changing room available. We had to change with the teams.
Alan Ward #330
08/07/07
East Kent Mavericks Field markings were faint in some areas. Hash marks were not especially clear. Field surface needed filling in some places. Home team only had two quality balls so the away team provided the third.
The game was played in generally good spirits and plaudits to both teams for a close contest until Norwich scored in the last two minutes.
Dan Bridgland #506
24/06/07
London Olympians No ambulance and so no game.
Also, 9-yard marks were 10-yards from sideline, end-zones were 7 yards deep, goals were soccer goals with uprights attached, thus too wide and too low. Chain crew and ball-boys provided after normal kick-off time. One of the ball-boys appeared to be under 14 years of age. Balls were provided after normal kick-off time and were over-inflated.

15/07/07
Birmingham Bulls Some hashmarks in one endzone, some yard lines not always 1 yard apart, and no 5 yard lines. The Bulls did a good job of marking the field at the last minute due to original stadium being unavailable. Gateshead arrived late so game kicked off 3/4 hour late. We ran 12-minute quarters as the Bulls had the field for a set period of time.
Brian Yates #29
21/07/07
Staffordshire Surge The markings could not be seen from the middle due to the grass on the field being of pampas proportions.
Tony Newsham #302
24/06/07
Farnham Knights There were no five yard lines. There were hash marks but only along one sideline. In the middle there were lines at each ten yard line to show where the hash marks would have been. There were similar lines to denote the 9 yard lines. There was an additional such line half way between the hash marks and the 9 yard marks that caused a little confusion on one occasion.
Keith Wickham #423
24/06/07
Cambridgeshire Cats Three small separate changing rooms available, but all of them have minimal seating and the shower and toilet are not in cubicles.
Essex kitted 18 players and requested to play with a running clock, Cambridgeshire agreed.
Half-time extended to 30 minutes by agreement of both head coaches.
Alan Dobson #308
15/07/07
Plymouth Admirals A very well contested game, which was a pleasure to officiate, both teams playing with great spirit and commitment.
The changing room problem reported last home game has been solved, one lockable and one un-lockable room now available.

East Kilbride Pirates Yard line markings were 9 foot from sideline not 9 yards. No team area or coaching box. There were no inbound lines (hash marks). The home team provided 3 balls but these were old, worn, and not fit for purpose. Fortunately the away team were able to provide suitable game balls. Payment was also not made until we were leaving the changing area (45 minutes after the conclusion of the game).
Ian Sneddon #427

Norwich Devils 90yd pitch . No Game balls presented until we had to chase them again just prior to kick off. Crew waited 40 minutes to be paid , finally paid by a member of the team so we didn't have to wait anymore. No Changing room available had to wait for teams to move out to get changed. Change to chain crew at half time.
Martin Cockerill #345
08/07/07
Chiltern Cheetahs Path intersects endzone, covered this with a crash mat and declared it out of bounds. Stanchion near end line padded. 1 ball person provided by Cambridge. Kick off delayed 6 minutes due to late arrival of ambulance. Pitch and dressing room problems from last week rectified.
Brian Yates #29
15/07/07
Sussex Thunder Sussex provided the ball boy for their sideline but Colchester had to provide one for their sideline. Chain crew were provided only 5 minutes before kick-off. Chain crew were slow, but there were no willing replacements so we did not change them at half time.
Sussex ball boy is only 12 years old but he is good nonetheless.
