PLAUDIT
I'd like to express a heartfelt thanks to Pete Johnson who came to watch our game on Sunday with his wife, but who very generously agreed to join the crew as we had been let down by the fourth member who did not turn up.
Not only did he abandon his wife, he did not have any kit with him and did the game wearing a spare hat which was at least one size too small and a borrowed rain-jacket which nearly fitted around his waist - the rest of his outfit was his street clothes.
It was a very warm afternoon, and even by half-time his shirt was literally wringing wet with sweat, and I hate to think what it was like going home with him in the car afterwards.
Many thanks, Pete - you're a great guy!

MONEY MATTERS
Following my last piece on outstanding accounts, the only teams who currently owe us money are:
| Staffordshire University | £480 |
| Aberystwyth University | £240 |
| Edinburgh Universities | £240 |
All other teams have now paid in full.
I expect to get £480 of this money in, one of these teams has folded and the other has refused to answer.
Both BAFA and BYAFA have paid in full.
This weekend can the crew on the BYAFA Festival please seek a BAFA fee of £60, to cover expenses.

ROGER'S RHETORIC
| From last week |
Play:
A's ball, 4th and 12, on B's 45.
A8's untouched punt breaks the plane of B's goal line and is batted back into the field of play by A84.
B42 recovers on B's 4 where he is downed. B76 illegally blocks A84 in the back on B's 18 before the kick ends.
Ruling:
B's ball, 1st and 10, on B's 9.
Team B may elect the touchback for the illegal touching violation in B's end zone before enforcement of the 10-yard penalty.
This option is not available to Team B when the illegal touching is in the field of play.
The postscrimmage kick spot is B's 20. The spot of the foul, B's 18, is behind the basic enforcement spot, B's 20.
|
| New this week |
A's ball, 4th and 2, on B's 23. The score is A24-B24. An official signals a touchdown, but does not blow his whistle, as soon as A49 crosses B's 5.
Time expires in the fourth quarter during the down.

With the co-operation of both head coaches, the 2nd quarter was reduced to 8 minutes. At the end of the 2nd quarter the Essex head coach conceded the game due to the lack of fit players left in his squad.

Path intersects endzone, covered this with a crash mat and declared it out of bounds. Stanchion near end line padded. 1 ball person provided by Cambridge. Kick off delayed 6 minutes due to late arrival of ambulance. Pitch and dressing room problems from last week rectified.

No ambulance and so no game.
Also, 9-yard marks were 10-yards from sideline, end-zones were 7 yards deep, goals were soccer goals with uprights attached, thus too wide and too low. Chain crew and ball-boys provided after normal kick-off time. One of the ball-boys appeared to be under 14 years of age. Balls were provided after normal kick-off time and were over-inflated.

Some hashmarks in one endzone, some yard lines not always 1 yard apart, and no 5 yard lines. The Bulls did a good job of marking the field at the last minute due to original stadium being unavailable. Gateshead arrived late so game kicked off 3/4 hour late. We ran 12-minute quarters as the Bulls had the field for a set period of time.

Sussex provided the ball boy for their sideline but Colchester had to provide one for their sideline. Chain crew were provided only 5 minutes before kick-off. Chain crew were slow, but there were no willing replacements so we did not change them at half time.
Sussex ball boy is only 12 years old but he is good nonetheless.
