PLYMOUTH ADMIRALS
Phil Alexander the game manager for Plymouth Admirals retired on Sunday after doing the job for 17 years.
He will be missed - he took his job seriously.
As you stepped out of the car after a long journey down to Plymouth, he would appear, lead you to the changing room, ensure the balls were provided, the key available at half-time and supply brown envelopes with the money normally before the game kicked off.
A true gent! And an example of how game management should be.

MISSING BOOKS
I lent a couple of my Referee books out in the last 6 months and never got them back.
They are titled something like Football Casebook 1990 and Football Casebook 1991.
Could whoever has them, get them back to me as there are a couple of guys in my area who would benefit from reading them.

ROGER'S RHETORIC
| From last week |
Play:
A's ball, 4th and goal, on B's 2. QB A12 attempts to hand the ball to A44 on B's 4 and A44 does not control the ball.
As A44 crosses the goal line the ball hits the ground and bounces right back into his arms and he now controls ball and is downed in B's end zone.
Ruling:
B's ball, 1st and 10, on B's 4. The fumble is charged to QB A12 since A12 was the last player in possession.
The fourth down fumble was recovered in advance of the spot of the fumble by a Team A player other than the fumbler.
The ball is returned to the spot of the fumble. Team A failed to gain a first down on fourth down.
The ball goes over to Team B. (SC0020)

| New this week |
A's ball, 3rd and 6, on B's 49. QB A12 is roughed after completing a screen pass to A45 on the 50.
A45 runs to B's 35 and fumbles as he is tackled. A23 recovers and is downed on B's 39. B66 was offside at the snap.

Two unsportsmanlike fouls - the first was to throw his helmet to the ground whilst on the field of play, and the second was a threat to an opponent to get him after the game.

The endzone at one end was shortened to 8 yards because of a potential trip hazard from some sports equipment near the pitch which could not be moved.
The game itself was played in great spirit and was a pleasure to officiate.
It was marred how ever by an unfortunate injury to Gordon Galloway the HL when he was injured.
The extent of his injuries means he will be side lined for several months.
All those involved at the game and I'm sure fellow BAFRA members will wish Gordon a speedy recovery.

Due to horrendous travel problems for Bristol Aztecs due to weather conditions the game was delayed and KO at 15:15hrs.
With agreed 10 minutes halftime it enabled game to be completed with ambulance cover.
Plaudits to both teams for excellent attitudes in an intensely close fought match played on a superb pitch in surprisingly beautiful weather.
Also due to late start crew reduced to three as official left at half time to travel to another match.

There were no 5 yard lines, the endzone at one end was 8 yards and the short yard-line extensions at the inbounds line were to far apart so cones were used instead.
The game was suspended for 30 minutes for a Dundee to be taken to hospital with what looked like a serious neck injury.
Once again Plaudits for both teams who played a hard fought and entertaining game in poor conditions.

Goals were soccer goals with extended uprights. There was also a hammer-net with stanchions positioned too close to the field of play - after this was pointed out to home management the posts were padded.

Chain detached from stake at one point. The game was suspended for about a minute while it was repaired. Some members of the chain crew switched at half-time.
After Warriors had scored a touchdown with 15 seconds remaining in the game, the Blitz head coach refused to contest the try down. The game was terminated.

K.O suspended 40 mins until a trip hazard was rectified on the field of play at the 30yd line. 2 holes approx 6-8 inches deep in a swampy area of the field were filled with an earth/sand mixture which also helped dissipate some of the standing water in that area.
Both teams were a credit to the game which was played in an excellent spirit throughout in a close hard fought contest.

Sussex provided the ball boy for their sideline but Colchester had to provide one for their sideline. Chain crew were provided only 5 minutes before kick-off. Chain crew were slow, but there were no willing replacements so we did not change them at half time.
Sussex ball boy is only 12 years old but he is good nonetheless.
