MEMBERSHIP UPDATE
Congratulations to Ed Elliott on completing the Induction Training Programme. Thanks to Russell Newton and Keith Wickham for helping Ed with his training.
I have had quite a few applications recently via the website and have managed to make contact with most of them. However, due to School holidays quite a few will not become available until around September or the start of the College season. I am however trying to get most of them to come along to Don Valley Stadium for Brit Bowl weekend.
My thanks to the members who have volunteered to help train new Officials.
There has been a noticeable upturn in applications since the launch of the BAFA web site www.getintoamericanfootball.com so I’m sure we will all be seeing a lot of new faces during the winter months.

ROGER'S RHETORIC
| From last week |
Play:
A's ball, 3rd and 6, on B's 49. QB A12 is roughed after completing a screen pass to A45 on the 50.
A45 runs to B's 35 and fumbles as he is tackled. A23 recovers and is downed on B's 39. B66 was offside at the snap.
Ruling:
A's ball, 1st and 10, on B's 24. The 15-yard penalty for roughing the passer is enforced from the end of the last run when that run ends beyond the neutral zone and there is no change of team possession during the down.
The end of the last run is B's 39. The penalty carries a first down.
The roughing the passer penalty is accepted and the offside penalty is declined. (SC0021)

| New this week |
A's ball, 4th and 4, on A's 48. A7's punt bounces on B's 8 and rolls to B's 4 where it touches B43's leg. A84 muffs the rolling ball into B's end zone where B39 and A51 simultaneously recover the ball.

Two unsportsmanlike fouls - the first was to throw his helmet to the ground whilst on the field of play, and the second was a threat to an opponent to get him after the game.

Chain crew were changed at half time without warning and we had to wait until they had been re-briefed before we could start the second half.
There is also no separate toilet in the changing rooms and the shower is at the end of the corridor (you have to share with the teams).

With the co-operation of both head coaches, the 2nd quarter was reduced to 8 minutes. At the end of the 2nd quarter the Essex head coach conceded the game due to the lack of fit players left in his squad.

Goals were soccer goals with extended uprights. There was also a hammer-net with stanchions positioned too close to the field of play - after this was pointed out to home management the posts were padded.

One set of hashmarks extremely faint, rest of lines slightly faint, only 2 balls in good condition provided by home team so we used a ball provided by the away team, chain crew quite slow, holes in field surface had been filled in with sand.

There were no 5 yard lines, the endzone at one end was 8 yards and the short yard-line extensions at the inbounds line were to far apart so cones were used instead.
The game was suspended for 30 minutes for a Dundee to be taken to hospital with what looked like a serious neck injury.
Once again Plaudits for both teams who played a hard fought and entertaining game in poor conditions.
