RENEWAL 2007

We are rapidly approaching the 2007 renewal, and I will be sending out the renewal forms shortly. You will notice that for full membership that the BAFRA fee is £40 - this is in addition to the BAFA of £20 (increased from £10 from last year). This makes a total for a full membership of £60 - cheques of postal orders please to be sent to Paul Sutton, not to me - if you have already paid the BAFA fee direct to BAFA then please advise your BAFA number as confirmation. As with earlier years, the Executive Board have agreed to allow a £5 discount if the membership fee is received before the end of October.

Included with the renewal form is a questionnaire similar to the one from last year. You are encouraged to complete this and return it with your renewal - your answers are very useful to us in ensuring that we are running BAFRA the way you want it run. As before, this is completely anonymous and voluntary.

BAFRA AT BRITBOWL XXI

I passed the attached to Glen Schild and he has just confirmed that it can be put on various websites.

Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd September: Don Valley Stadium.

Over the past 6 weeks BAFRA (British American Football Referees’ Association) have received quite a few applications for membership. This would appear to be interest generated by the forthcoming NFL game at Wembley and the introduction of the http://www.getintoamericanfootball.com web site. As such, BAFRA’s Director of Training, Davie Parsons, has arranged to provide some initial training for these new recruits at BritBowl XXI. The programme will include some discussions and practical sessions as well as presentations entitled: An Introduction to BAFRA and Football in the UK, The Role of the Official, Getting off to a Good Start and Rules and Mechanics Study.

As part of BAFRA’s ongoing recruitment drive the above event is open to anyone interested in becoming an Official. Officiating American Football is a great way to be involved in the sport. It also gives you the best seat in seat in the house.

Interested? Yes? Well all you have to do is register your intention to attend by sending Davie an email at training@bafra.org. You will then receive further details on times and location within the Stadium.

Don’t worry about missing any of the action on the field as the presentations will end well before the first game Kicks Off.

For further information on BAFRA you can also log on to http://www.bafra.org.

ROGER'S RHETORIC

From last week Play: This cropped up in last week's pre-game and you can blame Keith Wickham:
Which contact foul is penalised as Unsportsmanlike Conduct, and which non-contact-foul is treated as a Personal Foul (we came up with two)?

Ruling: Rule 9-2-4: Intentionally contacting a game official physically during the game by persons subject to the rules is a foul.
Rule 2-32-1a+b: Fighting or inciting a fight (attempting to strike an opponent does not necessarily have to make contact).
