CORRECTION
The team that was listed in Newsflash 39 as owing BAFRA money is the Edinburgh Timberwolves, now known as the Napier Mavericks. Apologies to the Edinburgh Wolves (who are a totally separate organisation) for the confusion.

BUAFL MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS
I've been asked to clarify the rules on medical facilities in BUAFL games. BUAFL are going with straight BAFA rules - so (like BCAFL last year) an ambulance is not a mandatory requirement if there is a doctor or paramedic present.

BAFRA FEATURES ON NFLUK TV
Go to http://www.nfluk.com/nfluktv.php to view an interview with BAFRA officials Jim Briggs, Russell Newton and Daniel Cuddeford. This was filmed prior to the Blitz vs Olympians semi-final back in September.
PS
The part of Daniel Cuddeford was played by Dan Bridgland!

THEFT AT ABERYSTWYTH
An official had his entire kit stolen from the changing room at Aberystwyth on Saturday. Please ensure that bags and clothes are placed in cars if you do not control the key to your changing room. We do have insurance, but there is a £100 excess and it doesn't cover cash or phones. You may wish to ensure that your own home contents insurance covers your items when you are officiating, since your excess may be lower.

EXCELLENT GAME MANAGEMENT
At the Hertfordshire Hurricanes v Kent Falcons game the team were told that they couldn't play on their usual field so had to move the game to an Astroturf field with less than a week notice. The goal posts were a couple of long poles strapped to soccer posts but the field was fully marked out with hash marks, numbers, team areas and an area roped off for spectators, we also had secure clean changing rooms with hot showers, ball boys (Richard Vernon + 1), quite a good chain crew and three almost new balls. Well done Hertfordshire Hurricanes!

Tarannau Aberystwyth |
No
pylons. Footballs provided by the away team. No separate
changing room. An official's bag was stolen from the team
changing room it had been left in prior to kick-off. |

Royal Holloway Vikings |
Groundsmen had tried to mark a 100 yard field on a 90 yard rugby field. This resulted in there being fewer than 10 yards between the each 10 yard line, while the endzones were only 7 yards deep. There were no hashmarks at all, 2 cones were placed at either end of the field to indicate where the ball should be spotted laterally. The numbers were less than 9 yards from the side lines. There was no room for the crew to change in – the home team changing room was used after the team had cleared it but could not be used after the game. Crew waited 25 minutes after the end of the game to get paid. Chain crew (except box operator - who was with us) and one ball person changed at half time. Balls and assistants provided very close to kick off time. Dan Bridgland #506 |
18/11/07 |
|
Huddersfield Hawks |
End Zones were six and five yards long. Field boundary lines were extremely uneven. There were no inbounds hash marks, three yard lines, ten yard lines, nor five yard lines. No official balls were provided by the home team - the away team's balls were used instead. Some of problems were corrected before game kicked off. Crew advised the home team to lengthen end zones for future games and shorten the field of play. Mike Cavanagh #465 |

Hertfordshire Hurricanes |
Kick off was suspended for 20 minutes due to Kent and two officials being stuck on the M25. Two wires stretched across the field about 3 metres above the ground. Crew decided that downs would be replayed if the ball hit the wire. Pete Thom #200 |

|
Newcastle Raiders |
Only one ball boy, chain crew changed after half time. The game was suspended for 55 minutes after the second half kick-off while the ambulance took an injured player to hospital. Tzvi Lindeman #381 |

|
UWE Bullets |
Although an Ambulance had been requested by the University of West of England admin office it did not appear on the day. After consulting it was found that a Doctor was present (the parent of a player) and a stretcher and first aid kit with splints was located. The game kicked off at 1:45 and the quarters were reduced to 12 minutes. Keith Wickham #423 |
25/11/07 |
|
Sheffield Hallam Warriors |
The pitch markings were inadequate since it was was marked for rugby with incorrect yard/ hash marks plus an end zone marked beyond the goal posts. With a lot of effort the Hallam staff remarked pitch with correct markings, although there was some confusion between the old and new sets of lines. The Sabres are scheduled to use the same pitch for their match (11/11/07) and both teams are in agreement about the markings and to take steps to prevent same situation reoccurring. Keith Alldritt #323 |
25/11/07 |
|
Derby Braves |
The pitch was only 80 yards and the markings inadequate. The start of the game was delayed 25 minutes while goalpost padding was found, it was decided to reduce the game to 12 minute quarters as a result. Only one match ball was used as the others were old and worn and not suitable. The chain broke on at least three occasions and the game was stopped to repair it. Despite all of this the game was played in great spirit. Muz Gibson #268 |

|
Plymouth Blitz |
The crew arrived late as we had to be met at a previous venue and shown the way to today's venue. The changing room had no light. The game kicked off 40 minutes late due to lack of ambulance. After the game, we waited outside the changing room for half an hour, before the player with the key came down from field. After changing, we were told that the treasurer did not have the money with him. So, the officials and BAFRA have not been paid. It was an excellent game played in an excellent spirit. Mike LeFevre #341 |

Oxford Cavaliers |
No 9 yard marks (there were numbers present but these were only 3 yards infield). NFL style hashmarks in the middle of the field (cones were put at the correct distance behind each endline) No pylons for goal/end lines. No dedicated changing room provided. Phil Clarke #372 |
