RESIGNATION
It's
with sadness that I have to report that Alun Price has tendered his
resignation as Director of Recruitment with immediate effect. Alun's
wife is unwell and she is his first priority at the moment. Alun
has only been a director for a few months but he was starting to make
headway with some initiatives, particularly our link with RFU
referees. For the short-term the other directors will be picking up
Alun's duties, but we are looking to fill his position as soon as
possible. Anyone interested, please get in touch.

PLAUDITS
Plaudits to Maidstone and Colchester for being willing to wait as long as we did for a replacement ambulance when the first didn't turn up and for agreeing to reduce the playing time so we could get to our second game. Plaudits also to East Kent and Essex for agreeing to have their kickoff delayed so we could get a proper game in.

Pitch was only 70 yards long. Game was not played due to a dispute over the pitch dimensions. Tim Vickers #129 |

Coventry Jets |
The paysheet was given to the game manager prior to the game. The treasurer said he would meet officials near the entrance after the game to pay. Officials waited 5 to 10 minutes after the game was over, then looked for him after changing – but he was nowhere to be seen Officials left after 40 minutes. Brian Yates #29 |

Oxford Saints |
Officials' changing room could not be locked, but Oxford provided keys to lockers within the room. Tea, coffee, cold drinks and biscuits were provided in the changing rooms. Plaudits to Oxford for that and an excellently marked pitch (field audit = 6). Jim Briggs #31 |
20/07/08 vs Norwich Devils |
|
Maidstone Pumas |
Game delayed by 1 hour and 5 minutes after agreement between head coaches and referee to allow an ambulance to arrive. Game shortened to 48 minutes to allow officials time to travel to Canterbury for the second game of a double-header. Alan Dobson #308 |

Gateshead Senators Youth |
The chains broke
6 times during the game. The game was scheduled for an apparent
11am kick off, however the officials were informed that the KO was
12.00. Plaudits to Highland Warriors who travelled for 8 hours and
were a credit to Scottish Football! Thanks go to both teams for an
excellent game. |
22/06/08 vs Sheffield Tomahawks |
|
Lincolnshire Bombers |
No nine yard marks or numbers, team areas too small, crew had to change in two separate changing rooms as one was too small for all 5 of us. This was not Lincolnshire's usual field and they did well to get it marked out at short notice. Pete Thom #200 |
22/06/08 vs Tamworth Phoenix |
|
South Wales Warriors |
Disc style plastic pylons. Ball boys consistently slow. Uneven surface and quite long grass on the entire field. Yardage markers on one side of field only. Phil Clarke #372 |
20/07/08 vs Hampshire Thrashers |
|
Bolton Bulldogs |
BAFRA agreed to cover the game if kick off was 1100 as the crew were committed to cover the Chester game at 1430. At 1000 crew were informed by the coach of the home team that kick off would not be till 1200. Crew reluctantly had to withdraw from coverage from the game. Charles Dean Young #258 |
10/08/08 vs Lancashire Wolverine Colts |
|
Staffordshire Surge |
The game was played in great spirit and was enjoyed by all. The grass on the field was extremely long and hampered spotting the ball at points during the game. Muz Gibson #268 |
15/06/08 vs Dundee Hurricanes |
|
Gateshead Senators |
No team area or coaches box. No numbers or 9 yard marks. The chains broke and had to be repaired, some of the chain crew vanished at half time and had to be replaced. Pete Thom #200 |
22/06/08 vs East Kilbride Pirates |
|
Hampshire Thrashers |
Start of game delayed for 12 minutes due to the late arrival of the ambulance. The game was suspended for 15 minutes for the ambulance crew to attend to an injured player. Mike LeFevre #341 |
29/06/08 vs South Wales Warriors |
|
Essex Spartans |
No team areas, coaching boxes or limit lines. Dimensions of field numbers less than required, however top of numbers were 9 yards from the sidelines. Phil Clarke #372 |
06/07/08 vs London Cobras |
|
Yorkshire Rams Youth |
Only soccer size goals where available, pitch was well marked out but was approximately five yards too wide. Balls supplied where not league-issued, away team provided the correct ones. Despite these minor issues an excellent game was played between two very good youth teams. Ian Wainwright #567 |
22/06/08 vs Bolton Bulldogs |
|
Dundee Hurricanes |
No 5yd lines. Coaching box marked to 30yd line. No hashmarks. Short yard extension lines only 45 feet from sideline & did not match up with the ones at the sideline. Numbers on the field were at the sidelines & very small. Les Connor 152 |
13/07/08 vs Redditch Arrows |
|
Southern Sundevils |
No numbers or 9yd
marks. While most lines were fine, some were faint due to the
grass having been cut after they were painted. One team area line
was more than 12ft from sideline. Goals both too wide and too low
(and each goal differently so to the other). Sundevils had not
received their league balls. We used Oxford's. Jim Briggs #31 |
15/06/08 vs Sussex Thunder |
|
Note: it is possible that any game may be cancelled, or any team may arrange additional games. In addition, the large number of game cancellations this week means that the fixtures listed here are highly likely to change. Any dates mentioned here are intended only as a guide. |

PLAY OF THE WEEK:
|
|
|
New this week |
Play:
A's ball, 3nd and 7, on B's 32. B49 intercepts A16's legal forward
pass on B's 3. B49's momentum carries him into B's end zone where
he fumbles. The ball rolls into the field of play. B42 recovers on
B's 1 and his momentum carries him into B's end zone where he is
downed.
|
|
Last week's play |
Play:
A's ball, 2nd and 4 on B's 44. A33 takes the hand-off and drives
off tackle. As A33 attempts to gain yardage, he extends his left
hand against the face mask (no grasp) of B66 who is "head on"
with him on B's 42. Maintaining continuous contact to the head,
A33 advances to B's 37. A33 pushes B66's head fully back before
his advance is stopped. |
