NEXT HOME GAME

15/06/08

Southern Sundevils

No 9yd marks or numbers. Goals too low and wide. One end zone only 8yds deep. Ball persons had to be changed in the third quarter - one was asleep and the other, while keen, wasn't quite up to it. Note that this was Southern's last game in Portsmouth - their next game will be at Southampton University's ground.

Jim Briggs #31

06/07/08 vs Kent Exiles

London Blitz

A plaudit to East Kilbride for flying all the way down to London, getting stuffed 42-0 but still remaining cheerful throughout!

Jim Briggs #31

13/07/08 vs Birmingham Bulls

Edinburgh Wolves

Game held up for 90 minutes in 4th quarter. Firstly to treat a player with a bad injury, then for the ambulance to take him to hospital, then return. Game abandoned with 4:30 left in game when Chester suffered another injury to another player.

Les Connor #152

05/07/08 vs Manchester Titans

  Outstanding items from previous weeks

Maidstone Pumas

Game delayed by 1 hour and 5 minutes after agreement between head coaches and referee to allow an ambulance to arrive. Game shortened to 48 minutes to allow officials time to travel to Canterbury for the second game of a double-header.

Alan Dobson #308

22/06/08 vs East Kent Mavericks

East Kent Mavericks

Game delayed 45 minutes while officials were in transit from Maidstone. No changing facilities available after the game.

Alan Dobson #308

06/07/08 vs Bedfordshire Blue Raiders

Sheffield Tomahawks

Tim Vickers #129

Unknown

Coventry Jets

The paysheet was given to the game manager prior to the game. The treasurer said he would meet officials near the entrance after the game to pay. Officials waited 5 to 10 minutes after the game was over, then looked for him after changing – but he was nowhere to be seen Officials left after 40 minutes.

Brian Yates #29

06/07/08 vs Gateshead Senators

Shropshire Revolution

Team Areas extended to the 20yd line

Martin Cockerill #345

20/07/08 vs Tamworth Phoenix

Oxford Saints

Officials' changing room could not be locked, but Oxford provided keys to lockers within the room. Tea, coffee, cold drinks and biscuits were provided in the changing rooms. Plaudits to Oxford for that and an excellently marked pitch (field audit = 6).

Jim Briggs #31

20/07/08 vs Norwich Devils

Gateshead Senators Youth

The chains broke 6 times during the game. The game was scheduled for an apparent 11am kick off, however the officials were informed that the KO was 12.00. Plaudits to Highland Warriors who travelled for 8 hours and were a credit to Scottish Football! Thanks go to both teams for an excellent game.
Chris Jarvis #10

22/06/08 vs Sheffield Tomahawks

Lincolnshire Bombers

No nine yard marks or numbers, team areas too small, crew had to change in two separate changing rooms as one was too small for all 5 of us. This was not Lincolnshire's usual field and they did well to get it marked out at short notice.

Pete Thom #200

22/06/08 vs Tamworth Phoenix

South Wales Warriors

Disc style plastic pylons. Ball boys consistently slow. Uneven surface and quite long grass on the entire field. Yardage markers on one side of field only.

Phil Clarke #372

20/07/08 vs Hampshire Thrashers

Bolton Bulldogs

BAFRA agreed to cover the game if kick off was 1100 as the crew were committed to cover the Chester game at 1430. At 1000 crew were informed by the coach of the home team that kick off would not be till 1200. Crew reluctantly had to withdraw from coverage from the game.

Charles Dean Young #258

10/08/08 vs Lancashire Wolverine Colts

Gateshead Senators

No team area or coaches box. No numbers or 9 yard marks. The chains broke and had to be repaired, some of the chain crew had to be replaced at half time.

Pete Thom #200

22/06/08 vs East Kilbride Pirates

Hampshire Thrashers

Start of game delayed for 12 minutes due to the late arrival of the ambulance. The game was suspended for 15 minutes for the ambulance crew to attend to an injured player.

Mike LeFevre #341

29/06/08 vs South Wales Warriors

Essex Spartans

No team areas, coaching boxes or limit lines. Dimensions of field numbers less than required, however top of numbers were 9 yards from the sidelines.

Phil Clarke #372

06/07/08 vs London Cobras

Yorkshire Rams Youth

Only soccer size goals available, pitch was well marked but was about five yards too wide. Balls were not league-issued, away team provided the correct ones.

Ian Wainwright #567

22/06/08 vs Bolton Bulldogs

Dundee Hurricanes

No 5yd lines. Coaching box marked to 30yd line. No hashmarks. Short yard extension lines only 45 feet from sideline & did not match up with the ones at the sideline. Numbers on the field were at the sidelines & very small.

Les Connor 152

13/07/08 vs Redditch Arrows

Note: it is possible that any game may be cancelled, or any team may arrange additional games. In addition, the large number of game cancellations this week means that the fixtures listed here are highly likely to change. Any dates mentioned here are intended only as a guide.

END ZONE

PLAY OF THE WEEK:

New this week

Play: B47 intercepts A14's legal forward pass in B's end zone. B47 fumbles while still in B's end zone and the ball rolls into the field of play and then out of bounds when the ball hits a goal line pylon.

Ruling?

Last week's play

Play: A's ball, 3nd and 7, on B's 32. B49 intercepts A16's legal forward pass on B's 3. B49's momentum carries him into B's end zone where he fumbles. The ball rolls into the field of play. B42 recovers on B's 1 and his momentum carries him into B's end zone where he is downed.

Ruling: The momentum rule is not applicable if the ball returns to the field of play from B's end zone after a player has possession in B's end zone even if the ball returns to B's end zone. An exception is a fumble that goes out of bounds in the field of play. The momentum rule is also not applicable when a pass, kick or fumble is by a Team B player. B42 provided the impetus. Safety. Team A is awarded two points. B's ball, free kick, on B's 20.
