WEMBLEY CHAIN CREW

The eight BAFRA members selected for the chain crew at Wembley on Sunday are Bernard Bradley, Jim Briggs, Martin Cockerill, Martin Gibson, Will Marriage, Richard Prattley, Pete Thom and Brian Yates. Please wish us all the best, you can watch us live on TV on either BBC2 or Sky Sports starting at 5pm.

Thanks to everyone else who volunteered for the crew and sorry that there wasn't room for everyone.

COLLEGE SEASON ASSIGNMENTS

I have completed a schedule of assignments for the first half of the college season and will publish these on the web site hopefully no later than Friday this week. I am waiting for BUAFL to confirm the fixture list, once this happens I will post the fixtures. Please check the website regularly.

Due to the location of games geographically and the way they have been scheduled by the league, there is quite a bit of travelling for most of us in the first half of the season. I have attempted to balance long trips with games closer to home wherever possible. Please consider these factors when looking at your assignments.

Could I also encourage you, in the interest of cost, to travel together whenever possible.

A THANK YOU

I have received the following from the Gloucester Banshees.

“THE GLOUCESTER BANSHEES would like to thank you (BAFRA) for participating in their 'mini' Associate Season in a most commendable and amenable manner. The Banshees applaud all of those officials who officiated at the three games and look forward to renewing acquaintances in the 2009 season of BAFL, hopefully – with fingers and everything crossed – as a full member”.

Good job by all of you that officiated at the Gloucester games. Well done.

RULES CLINICS

I have had no volunteers so far to do the rules clinics at Teeside and Northumbria mentioned in last week’s newsflash. If no volunteers come forward by Friday I will advise the teams that we cannot assist on this occasion.

ADMIN FEES AND CREW PAYMENTS

Two quick reminders:

  1. The admin fee is now £65.

  2. If you do a game for a "pre-paid" team, the referee (or someone) MUST send in a crew request for payment form. Under our new auditing arrangements, BAFRA can't pay a crew unless the paperwork is there.

I'm on holiday until 4th November. Andrew Lovell will be dealing with finance while I'm away.

END ZONE

PLAY OF THE WEEK:

New this week

Play: A's ball on B's 18, 3rd and 16. B47 commits defensive pass interference on B's 8 which also involves a personal foul. The legal forward pass is incomplete.

Ruling?

Last week's play

Play: A's ball, free kick, on A's 35. The untouched kick is bouncing near the sideline on A's 49 when A28 jumps and controls the ball while airborne. B93 pushes A28 toward the sideline and A28 lands out of bounds on A's 49.

Ruling: The free kick had gone the required ten yards past Team B's restraining line. A28 did not recover the free kick since he did not land inbounds. The fact that A28 may have landed inbounds if he was not pushed out of bounds is not relevant. Team B did not touch the free kick. This is a free kick out of bounds and a foul. Team B will decline the penalty and elect to take the ball at the hash mark on the yardline where the ball crossed the sideline. B's ball, 1st and 10, on A's 49.
