EFAF OFFICIATING

We in Britain may have as many as 6 places on the EFAF panel next year (or we might have as few as 2 – we won't know for a couple of weeks yet). The Selection Committee would therefore like to receive applications from participants in the BAFRA Elite Programme who wish to be considered. Existing EFAF panel members need only indicate their desire (or not) to carry on. New applicants, please send a short officiating CV. In either case, please email your application to selection@bafra.org by 14th November.

For anyone on the EFAF panel, attendance at the EFAF Officiating Clinic is mandatory at least every two years. The 2009 Clinic will be held in Warsaw, Poland, on 24th-25th January. I've already passed the details on to current EFAF panel members. If there is anyone else interested in attending this, please let me know ASAP. There is some financial support for attending that is divided between however many British officials go.

CONTACT FROM A FORMER MEMBER

I have received an e-mail from a former member, George Mihalcik (#19), who was based in the Cambridgeshire area in the late 1980s/early 1990s. George is now back in Texas and has asked to be remembered to any who knew him. There were a couple of people George particularly wished to contact and I have passed his details to them directly. If anyone else wishes to get in touch with George please let me know and I will provide his contact details.

SUSPENDED PLAYER

It has come to BAFA's attention that Matt Strong, who was disqualified while playing for the Birmingham Bulls during the BAFL season, but who has not yet served his suspension, has now joined Birmingham Lions of BUAFL.

Under the BAFA Disciplinary Code, "a suspended participant who has not completed a suspension, and who wishes to transfer organisation, carries their suspension with them to their new organisation."

It is therefore the case that Matt Strong must serve his suspension in Birmingham Lions' first game, on Saturday 8th November versus Bath Killer Bees. Providing he does not offend again, he will not have any further suspension to serve next season with Birmingham Bulls.

If anyone has any questions about this, please contact me.

IMPROVEMENTS TO THE ONLINE ASSIGNMENTS PAGES

Having trawled all the BUAFL team websites and the BUAFL website, I have been able to find what would appear to be current home field location information for most of the BUAFL teams. Where the information is available the home team's name on the assignment sheet will appear as a link to the location information on the web.

Where there is not a link, I have emailed the team for location data. I will update the sheet as the locations come in.

Hopefully this will make life easier for everyone.

END ZONE

PLAY OF THE WEEK:

New this week

Play: A's ball on A's 30, free kick. A7's free kick bounces on B's 2 and breaks the plane of B's goal line. A87 recovers the ball in B's end zone before the ball touches the ground in B's end zone.

Ruling?

Last week's play

Play: A's ball on B's 18, 3rd and 16. B47 commits defensive pass interference on B's 8 which also involves a personal foul. The legal forward pass is incomplete.

Ruling: Contact by Team B with an eligible receiver involving a personal foul (not holding) that interferes with the reception of a catchable pass may be penalized either as pass interference or as a 15-yard personal foul enforced from the previous spot. The half-the-distance provision does not apply to defensive pass interference but does apply to personal fouls. Team A will accept the defensive pass interference penalty which is a spot foul on B's 8. A's ball on B's 8, 1st and goal. The clock starts on the snap.
