Convention Countdown

It’s just a few days now to our biggest Convention for many a year. All the preparation work is done and all we need to do now is turn up and make the most of the weekend. The final count is now 60 registered to attend

Welcome desk

The Welcome Desk will be open between 9:00am - 9:30am on the Saturday morning and will be located in the Arden Suite.

A few things will happen when you arrive at the Welcome Desk. Firstly you will need to sign-in and then pick up your Convention Pack. This will contain the following items:

·        2008 BAFA Rule Book

·        2008 BAFRA Mechanics Manual

·        Programme of Events

·        Handouts for some of the Break-out Sessions

·        EFAF DVD and Review Notes

·        I.D. Badge

·        Game Day Paperwork Pack

·        BAFRA Business Cards

·        Get into American Football.com Folder

·        Writing Paper and Pen

You will then be shown to the Dunchurch Suite where Tea and Coffee will be available. This is the main Convention Hall and we will start at 9:30am prompt. We have quite a lot to get through during the day so I would ask that everyone makes the effort to be there as early as possible.

What to bring with you

Please bring a flag and bean bag for use during Steve Tonkinson's breakout session.

Housekeeping notes

Rooms will be available from 2:00pm on your day of arrival. We will probably have a room available where bags can be stored until you check-in.

I will arrive at the hotel around 6:00pm on the Friday and Charlie will be there around 8:30am on the Saturday to sort out any problems

And finally

I look forward to meeting everyone at the Convention and I’m sure we will all have an enjoyable time.

Annual General Meeting

All of the Director’s reports (except the Director of Training’s) and the Auditor’s report for the AGM were sent out to all members over the weekend in one e-mail and the Director of Training’s report was sent out in a second e-mail.  If any member did not receive either or both of these e-mails, they should contact me as a matter of urgency.

I will be bringing some BAFRA shirt badges to the Convention this weekend.  If anyone would like one (or more) they are £2-00 each.  If anyone is not attending but would like to purchase one or more  they should write to me enclosing a cheque or postal order for £2-30 for one badge or £4-30 for two (the additional cost being to cover postage and packing).

Contacting members

Colin Willox (webmaster@bafra.org) has been attempting to check the email address of every BAFRA member. Currently 7 members have not replied to his email and they risk being removed from the Newsflash distribution list and so miss out on important information.

If you receive an email from Colin, please respond to it promptly. If you have not received an email from Colin, please check your junk/spam mailbox to see if it has been put there, and send an email to Colin at the above address to confirm your current address.

BYAFA

As of 31st March, the British Youth American Football Association (BYAFA) ceased to exist. The organisation has wound itself up and its teams have moved to the newly formed BAFL Youth leagues (contact and flag).

BAFRA sends its thanks to Wendy Bamford and her colleagues for all the help they have given us over the years.

Lifted an opponent into the air and dropped him on his head

Next regular season or playoff game he is eligible for

There has been some confusion about when Jason Osei (#79 of Hertfordshire Hurricanes) is to serve his suspension. Extensive consultation has taken place with BUAFL and members of the BAFA Board. The BAFA Disciplinary Code says "suspensions resulting from ejection from a regular season or playoff game will apply only to a regular season or playoff game". Osei is however believed to be a final-year student and therefore unlikely to play another game for the Hurricanes. The Code also says: "A person who has not completed a suspension may not transfer registration without BAFA's permission." Precedent leads us to interpret this as meaning Osei will be suspended from his team's first game should he register with a team in another league (i.e. BAFL), and London Olympians are thought to be his likely destination). He is therefore eligible to play (if selected) in the BUAFL MVP game.
