ANNUAL EXAMINATION

I remind all members that the annual examination period closes on 10th May. To date only 21 papers have been received back, which is less than ⅓ the number of exams sent out. Any paper received after the closing date will be marked, but the fact that it was late will be notified to the Directors of Training and Operations. Late receipt of your paper may affect allocation to games, bowl crews and the elite panel unless an extension had been granted by the Director of Training.

Exam results will be posted out on 16th May (to allow for extensions granted). Once the answers are in the public domain it will not be possible to accept papers at all. Please note that any qualified official may not work games unless they return their exam paper.

GAME MANAGEMENT REPORTS

REPORT

NEXT HOME GAME

04/05/08

Lincolnshire Bombers

No nine yard marks or numbers, team areas too small, crew had to change in two separate changing rooms as one was too small for all 5 of us. This was not Lincolnshire's usual field and they did well to get it marked out at short notice.

Pete Thom #200

22/06/08 vs Tamworth Phoenix

London Blitz

Chain set provided included a down box that was detached from the stake and could not be attached. This resulted in the box operator having to carry the box for the duration of the game.

Richard Vernon #103

01/06/08 vs Farnham Fast Lane Knights

Farnham Knights Youth

Farnham's regular venue (Aldershot Army Rugby Stadium) was not available so the game was played on a pitch about half a mile away. The groundsman had not marked this out correctly and Farnham had a rush to fix what they could.
Field was 70 metres from goal line to goal line, with 10 metre end zones. Inbounds lines split field into thirds. Some hashmarks were missing (and those that were present were all 1 metre apart).
The team areas were marked from the 20 to the 20. The coaching box line was about 12ft from sideline.
Changing rooms were half a mile from the field, but we were able to drive it and park next to the field.
The field audit mark was 197, but nevertheless credit to Farnham for doing their best to put things right.

Jim Briggs #31

11/05/08 vs London Warriors

  Outstanding items from previous weeks

Shropshire Revolution

Game was delayed for 20mins due to an injury to Revolution's #67 who suffered a broken leg. The crew wish him well with his recovery and congratulate both sides for their patience and effort during a hard-fought game.

Keith Alldritt #323

08/06/08 vs Lincolnshire Bombers

Bolton Bulldogs

No team areas, ten yard lines only. The second half started late 30 minutes due to the ambulance taking two injured players to hospital.

Charlie Dean Young #258

01/06/08 vs Highland Wildcats

Gateshead Senators Youth

The chains broke 6 times during the game. The game was scheduled for an apparent 11am kick off, however the officials were informed that the KO was 12.00. Plaudits to Highland Warriors who travelled for 8 hours and were a credit to Scottish Football! Thanks go to both teams for an excellent game.
Chris Jarvis #10

22/06/08 vs Sheffield Tomahawks

Hampshire Thrashers

Numbers only 6yds from sideline. Coaching box was 12ft and team area was 24ft from sideline. Three changing rooms were used. The first was too small (would fit only 2 or 3 people), the second was dirty and wet having recently been vacated by a rugby team. The third was also dirty and had half-drunk beer bottles left presumably by the colts rugby team that had vacated it.

Jim Briggs #31

11/05/08 vs East Kent Mavericks

South Yorkshire Mustangs

Thanks to the Mustangs game management, it was a pleasure to officiate at this venue – 100yrd pitch perfectly marked, ball boys & chain crew excellent. It was a real credit to the Mustangs brand and to the league!

Tony Newsham #302

11/05/08 vs Redditch Arrows

Yorkshire Rams

PAT lines were marked 3 yards from the end line rather than the goal line. Otherwise the game was played in an excellent spirit of sportsmanship.

Chris Jarvis #10

11/05/08 vs West Coast Trojans

Note: it is possible that any game may be cancelled, or any team may arrange additional games. In addition, the large number of game cancellations this week means that the fixtures listed here are highly likely to change. Any dates mentioned here are intended only as a guide.
