Sussex Thunder are pre-paying for their home matches this season. If you are assigned to one of their home games, to ensure you are paid, after the game can the Referee or one other official please complete the online Crew Request for Payment Form, and I will arrange for the officials to be paid.
Note that due to potential changes to crews, any requests for payment received before the game is played will be ignored.

As you may or may not be aware: as a result of some personal issues I am having to deal with, Phil Clarke is kindly managing the assignments for me. Clearly there are some issues, as we have not been able to get assignments out as quickly as we would normally have liked. We are working hard to address the issues and I can only ask that you bear with us while we sort things out.
Please accept my apologies for any inconvenience that the current situation may be causing.

By the closing date, I had received 86 papers and a few have arrived since. I am acknowledging via e-mail the receipt of papers, so if you think that I should have received yours and you hear nothing it may not have reached me (or there may be a problem with your e-mail account). If in doubt feel free to check with me. I am able to accept papers up to 16th May, which is when the results will be posted out. I cannot accept papers after this date as the answers will be in the public domain.
I have sent an e-mail to all who originally received the exam and had not returned it by the due date. Please note that people who have joined BAFRA since the start of the exam period (4th April) were not sent a paper.
The returns from the BAFRA officials, together with those from our colleagues in Ireland who sat our exam over the same period, mean that this has been the busiest exam period for many a year.
I will publish some information in next week’s Newsflash about which questions caused the most problems, plus one or two other exam-related items that may be of interest.

A quick reminder (from our expenses policy, and for the benefit mainly of newer members) that, where possible, all members attending the same game or event should travel together, to minimise costs. Where this is not possible, due to a member's personal commitments, BAFRA will not pay expenses to that member unless agreed in advance by the Director of Finance (or the Director of Operations in his absence).

The Midlands officials meet once a month on the first Thursday (next meeting 4th June). Meetings are held at the Coopers Tavern in Burton, from 7.30pm. All members are welcome. Contact Charlie Dean-Young or Keith Alldritt for details.
Solent
The recently formed Solent Officials Association is meeting fortnightly on Thursdays (next meeting 21st May) at 8pm at Jim Briggs's house in Havant. Contact him on 023 9236 5232 for details.
The next meeting of the Thames Valley Officials Association is on Monday 18th May at 8pm at Pete Parsons's house in Reading. Contact Pete for details.
Please continue to email newsflash@bafra.org with dates and locations of your future meetings. We remain pleased to see that local associations are coming back into vogue in places that haven't had them for some time.
May I remind people that they should send in two audits for double-header games, and that the audit is being conducted on youth games as well as senior games.
Additionally, please check that you are using this year’s audit form. I have received one back that is on an obsolete form that was last in use two years ago. If you do not have a copy of the current form, it may be downloaded from the BAFRA website at http://www.bafra.org/rulesctee/field/forms/GMAuditR03B.pdf

If you know of any other teams that are providing one, please let us know.

For the past two weeks, Chris Littler of Lancashire Wolverines was inadvertently listed as being suspended for Lancashire’s game against Chester Romans on May 10th. In fact, he served his suspension on May 3rd against Highland Wildcats and was therefore eligible to play against Chester. Apologies for the error.

31/05/09 vs London Blitz |
|

The field is only 78 yards long with 10-yard

with 9-yard end zones.) Jim Briggs #31 |
14/06/09 vs Coventry Jets |

Peterborough Saxons (Youth) |
Norwich turned up with less than the minimum required squad members. The game was forfeited 1-0 to Peterborough. Larry Rigby #269 |

17/05/09 vs Peterborough Saxons |
|
Gloucester Banshees |
Game was suspended for 8 minutes in the 3rd quarter to allow treatment of an injured player, who was too close to the field to allow play to continue safely. Phil Clarke #372 |
17/05/09 vs Plymouth Admirals |
|
Clyde Valley Blackhawks |
No card check conducted by Glasgow. Officials' assistants changed at half-time and needed to be re-briefed; otherwise excellent game management by Clyde Valley. Ben Griffiths #228 |
24/05/09 vs Edinburgh Wolves |
|
East Kent Mavericks |
Game was played at Faversham Recreation Ground/Rugby Club. Parking is at a premium. Changing rooms could not be locked (we used changing rooms in larger of two buildings and took bags out to the field). No numbers or nine yard marks. Field markings in blue but quite visible. Daniel Bridgland #506 |
24/05/09 vs Maidstone Pumas |
|
Hull Hornets |
The kick off was delayed by 47 minutes owing to the late arrival of the ambulance. There was only one set of goalposts, both coaches agreed to play on the understanding that if a field goal or 1 point try was to be attempted then that down would be played towards the goalposts. This did not unduly affect the game as it happened only once during the game in the first quarter Tim Vickers #129 |
24/05/09 vs Highland Wildcats |
|
Plymouth Admirals |
There were three separate incidents where the game was delayed for more than 5 minutes due to players requiring treatment for injuries. Russell Newton #324 |

|
|
Colchester Gladiators |
Both head coaches agreed to a running clock in the second half. Alan Dobson #308 |
