ASSIGNMENTS
A revised assignments sheet is on the website. All crews affected this week have been separately advised. There is an indication of some changes for the 16th on the sheet. I expect a few more and will advise when they are completed.

BAFRA ELITE PROGRAMME TRAINING DAY
This year's Elite Programme Training Day will be held on Saturday 12th September at the Coventry Hill Hotel (the same venue as the 2009 BAFRA Convention). All Officials who have been selected for the programme are expected to attend. However it is appreciated that some people will not be able to come along due to holidays, work or other commitments. As such, could all programme members please e-mail epcoordinator@bafra.org to let me know whether or not they will be attending.
The meeting is open to all BAFRA Officials who would like to take advantage of the training carried out on the day. However spaces are limited so let me know if you want to come along.
Last year's Elite Training Day attracted our biggest attendance since the programme began and the feedback we received was excellent.
Further details and an agenda will follow in subsequent editions of Newsflash. In the meantime get the date in your diary, and I’m sure all will benefit from attending.

SWINE FLU
We would like to remind BAFRA members of the latest NHS advice for minimising the risk of infection and dealing with any suspected flu-like symptoms.
Maintain good standards of cleanliness in line with NHS guidelines at www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk
Remain alert to any colleague or player exhibiting flu-like symptoms
Any member who may have flu should stay at home and seek medical advice from the swine flu hotline, their doctor or follow the instructions at www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk
Plus, please ensure that the Director of Operations is kept informed of your condition.

MOVIE STARS REQUIRED
A film production company has been in touch with BAFRA regarding making a movie based on the story of the Crewe Railroaders team of 1985. Unlikely as this may sound, they are looking for three referees wearing uniforms that would have been worn in 1985. There will be a fourth referee but he will be an actor. The referees would be required for three days filming on location in Crewe - the shoot is provisionally scheduled for consecutive weekdays in March 2010. They are offering £100 per day, complimentary food and drink while on location, a credit as Referee and copy of the DVD when released; however there are no accommodation expenses to be paid.
Please let me know if:
(a) you would be interested in taking part in this
(b) you have an original BAFRA 2-inch striped shirt that you would be willing to lend

PLAUDITS
I have received the following message from the Gloucester Banshees:
“Messrs - Newton, Bloxam, Grace and Sowden (the crew who officiated at Plymouth 2nd August 09) did an excellent job on the game - very animated at times (that's a compliment by the way) - and very good all the time.
I know we were the away team, but I feel that if the guys did a good job, then they should be told.
With kindest regards
Jim - Gloucester Banshees”

Lincolnshire Bombers |
NFL hashmarks. Cones were placed behind both end lines to indicate the correct place for the hashmarks. Field had various lines marked on it which were nothing to do with American football. Outstanding game management, plaudits to Lincolnshire. Mike LeFevre #341 |
Unknown |
|
London Cobras |
No numbers or 9-yard marks on field. No team area line. Field had to be cleared of dog poo before kickoff. Changing smelt bad and were not secure, there was not even any glass in the windows. One member of chain crew and one ball boy disappeared at halftime and had to be replaced. Jim Briggs #31 |

London Olympians |
Played at Warren Avenue in Bromley. Lines only every 10 yards. Hashmarks NFL width but 5 yds long with 1 yd gap in middle of field. One ball-boy changed twice. Changing room too small, changed in vacant team room, not locked. No team areas. Norval Scott #374 |

Gateshead Senators |
Chain crew were inattentive and kept moving when not instructed to. One ball-boy had to be provided by the away team. Game halted in second half when the presence of an individual in Gateshead's coaching area and on the sideline was queried. Individual was not on the roster and was therefore removed from the area. Thanks to the Gateshead HC for his cooperation and help in this. Tim Vickers #129 |
09/08/2009 vs Dundee Hurricanes |
|
Farnham Knights |
Farnham (senior and youth) are now playing at Farnborough RFC. Field is 90 yards and reasonably well marked (no numbers). Changing room is small but adequate. Jim Briggs #31 |

Doncaster Mustangs |
Kick off delayed 45 mins due to late ambulance arrival and treatment of an official. Tim Vickers #129 |
