2010 EXAMINATION
The final date for the exam is now passed but, as some candidates have been granted extensions, the results will not be published until 5th May. This means that, for the few people who have not returned their exam, I can accept papers for marking up to the first post on 4th May. Amongst those who have not returned their papers are a couple of qualified officials. I remind them that sitting an annual exam is an insurance requirement and that any who do not return their paper will lose their qualified status, have to sit a competency exam before they can go back on the field and work ten games as an associate official. For associate officials who joined before 6th March 2010, there is no mandatory requirement to sit the exam however it is recommended that you do so. Officials who joined after 5th March 2010 were not sent an exam paper.
Results will be sent out individually after the exam period closes and some statistics about the exam will appear in next week’s Newsflash.

ASSIGNMENT UPDATE
I have received the final schedule from the BAFA CLOC and will be able to publish assignments for the rest of May during the weekend of 1st/2nd May. As I have alluded too before, there will be some longer journeys this year really as a result of the geographic nature of the schedule.
Thank you to everyone who has offered to do games in Cornwall or Inverness. I will give you as much notice as possible of these assignments.
Again, thank you all for your patience and cooperation.

BAFA CL MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS
The minimum medical requirements for the BAFA CL for 2010 are exactly the same as they were last year for the BAFL. An ambulance is required.

Gateshead Senators |
Field 90 yards, chain crew were changed at half time (and poor standard), goal posts located well behind back line. Mark Snow #430 |
09/05/10 v East Kilbride Pirates |
|
Gateshead Senators (Youth) |
Game reduced to 10-minute quarters due to late arrival of away team. Home Team only provided 1 ball-person, away team provided the other. Chain Crew changed at half-time. Home team coach observed coaching from behind end zone, he was asked to return to the team area. There were Soccer and hockey markings on the field. No team areas, no 3-yard mark, no 9-yard marks. One Goal Post half-way up a hill. Ben Griffiths #228 |
09/05/10 v Forth Valley Fusion |
|
London Olympians |
Numbers too close to sideline. Inbounds lines appeared to be NFL-style hashes. Olympians expected to have proper "tuning fork" style goals available for use, but we had to make do with soccer goals with extended uprights (padding was used on posts and on part of posts laying on the ground behind the end zones). Changing room was very cramped, being a small room leading to a disabled toilet and shower (there was more room in the shower than in the changing room). No tap in basin serving toilet! Dan Bridgland #506 |
02/05/10 v Lincolnshire Bombers |
|
London Blitz |
Kickoff delayed 10 minutes due to both teams' indecision about whether to conduct a card check. Any crews working at Finsbury Park this season should be aware that London Blitz are now supplying a microphone for the Referee. Alan Dobson #308 |
20/06/10 v Coventry Jets |
|
Outstanding items from previous weeks |
||
|
Hampshire Thrashers |
No numbers or 9 yard marks. No sideline markers to indicate yard lines. Home team only had a down box - fortunately one of the officials had a chain set in the boot of his car! Chain crew changed at half-time. Game kicked off 5 minutes late due to late arrival of ambulance. However, offsetting the above, we had an officials changing room with leather armchairs and a private bar! Jim Briggs #31 |
23/05/10 v Gloucester Banshees |
|
Shropshire Revolution |
It was reported to me with 50 seconds remaining that the down box operator had a two way radio, which he had used to update the scoreboard operator and the commentator errors on the board. Lancashire had objected claiming an unfair advantage. By rule no offence had occurred, unless the league has sanctions. This was a great game with a 50yard field goal, and both sides playing good hard football. Charlie Dean-Young #258 |
06/06/10 v Sheffield Predators |
|
Note: it is possible that any game may be cancelled, or any team may arrange additional games. Any dates mentioned here are intended only as a guide. |
