BERNARD BRADLEY
I have received the very sad news that Bernard Bradley passed away on Tuesday 6th July. Bernard was a BAFRA member of long standing who was both liked and respected not just by his officiating colleagues but all those involved in football who knew him. He will be sadly missed.
As a mark of respect, it is requested that a minutes silence is observed at all games this coming weekend.

COMPETENCY EXAM
Tzvi Lindeman and Henry Richardson have produced a new competency exam for associate officials to sit before they take to the field for the first time. This replaces the old exam that has been in use for the past fifteen months.
I would like to place on record my thanks to Tzvi and Henry for their hard work in producing this document. We will watch with interest to see who is the lucky associate official currently going through their basic training who will first sit (and hopefully pass!!!) this exam.

BAFCA CONVENTION
I will be attending the BAFCA Convention on the Saturday, staying overnight and will be around for most of the Sunday. I've booked a twin-room, so there is a spare bed for the first person to contact me. Best they contact me direct on 07733-325816, and I can also go into what Jim Messenger wants from us too.

NEXT HOME GAME |
|
New this week |
||
|
East Kilbride Pirates |
Chain Crew and Ball Boys only made available by home team immediately prior to kick-off - they were experienced so there was no delay to the start of the game. Part of the Chain Crew was changed at half time requiring another briefing prior to kick-off. Towels not provided by home team for wiping of balls and keeping dry. Mark Snow #430 |
18/07/10 v Merseyside Nighthawks |
|
Sussex Thunder |
Goal crossbar almost certainly more than 10 feet above ground level and uprights only extend a few feet above it. Goals are located about 2 yards beyond the end line. Otherwise excellent facilities with fruit and water in the officials' changing room. Jim Briggs #31 |
15/08/10 v London Cobras |

Outstanding items from previous weeks |

|
Staffordshire Surge |
Coaches box missing , team box missing , no nine yard marks, no numbers. Change to chain crew for second half. Martin Cockerill #345 |
25/07/10 v Manchester Titans |
|
Merseyside Nighthawks |
Two ball boys were provided, but the second ball boy was also in charge of the down box, which caused some problems regarding down box movement. Mike Cavanagh #465 |
08/08/10 v Yorkshire Rams |
|
Sheffield Tomahawks |
Although the field markings appear perfect the field is measured out, at least lengthways, in metres. Both coaches were notified about this as obviously we had to use the chains, meaning that it was possible for it to appear that a drive started on a yard line would gain a first down after an apparent nine and a half yards! Plaudits to Tomahawks management who paid us in exactly the right notes and coins! Tim Vickers #129 |

Changing Rooms Inadequate. Ray Grace #272 |
11/07/10 v Oxford Saints |

East Kent Mavericks |
Played at Folkestone RFC. No team area line or limit lines. No numbers or 9-yard marks. Hashmarks faded as the game progressed and with no hashmarks at the sidelines. Officials assistants changed on multiple occasions throughout the match. Tim Ockendon #481 |
11/07/10 v Colchester Gladiators |
|
Birmingham Bulls |
Kick off was delayed by half-hour while chain set was brought from Birmingham University who had borrowed them. Brian Yates #29 |
11/07/10 v Tamworth Phoenix |
|
Bristol Aztecs |
One team area marked (at one end) to the 30-yard line. Otherwise the field markings are perfect. Chain crew and ball boy poor, even making allowances for the heat. Jim Briggs #31 |
08/08/10 v London Blitz |
|
Gateshead Senators |
This report applies to the youth game played as first of double header. Game played on a multi-use pre-marked astroturf pitch with white soccer markings. No 9 yard marks, team area indicated by 5 a side markings. 90 yard pitch with 8 yard endzones. Goal posts 12 yards from goal line, one set not parallel to end line.
