BERNARD BRADLEY – FUNERAL INFORMATION

By now you will all be aware of the sad passing of Bernard Bradley. His family have asked that I pass on the following information about the funeral. I know a number of you wanted this information.

The funeral is being held on Tuesday 20 July at St Mary's Church in Kingswinford (www.stmaryskingswinford.org.uk), at 2pm.

The family have asked for no black attire in fact blue & white would be preferred. Bernard was a big WBA fan. The wake will be at The Whittington Inn, and everyone is welcome to attend after the service.

PLAUDITS

Many thanks to the team management and and coaching staff that assisted in running the chain-crew on Sunday 11th at Birmingham.

For an away team to step in and help out at short notice shows great sportsmanship and commitment to the youth players being able to play. On top of that they did an excellent job scoring a 5 out of 5 on the referees assessment form.

Thanks to Andy Mortimer, Jim Mortimer, Tom Bishop, John Winter and Andy Garrett

GAME MANAGEMENT REPORTS

HOME TEAM

REPORT

NEXT HOME GAME

New this week

Kent Exiles

No numbers or 9-yard marks. Hashmarks were unevenly spaced at one end of the field. Also some of the lines were crooked, most notably one goal line and the near sideline at that end of the field. Plaudits to both teams for playing a good, competitive game right up to the end under energy sapping conditions.

Tim Ockendon #481

18/07/10 v East Kent Mavericks

Birmingham Bulls

Chain crew provided by Tamworth so many thanks to Andy Mortimer, Jim Mortimer, Tom Bishop, John Winter and Andy Garrett for stepping into the void and doing an excellent job. Greatly appreciated

Martin Cockerill #345

01/08/10 v Nottingham Caesars

South Wales Warriors

No nine yard marks. No numbers marked on field. No coaching areas

Mike LeFevre #341

Unknown

Chester Romans

With 3.30 remaining in Quarter 3, game was suspended for 32 minutes for paramedic and ambulance assistance to Chester Head coach who collapsed on the sidelines. County ambulance conveyed Coach to hospital, allowing game to proceed following discussions with both teams and respective Coaching Staff.

Mike Cavanagh #465

08/08/10 v Hull Hornets

East Kent Mavericks

Coaching box and team area too close to sideline. No hashes at side lines. No numbers or nine yard marks. Inbounds lines faint and disappeared after the youth game. Ball persons inattentive and poor.

Officials assistants changed during senior game without informing officials (at one point an assistant was trying to be the down box operator, ball boy and eat a KFC!!) The owner of a nearby house lit a bonfire which blew smoke over the field. The council were called and the householder put the fire out. At Folkestone RFC you have to cross a road to get from the changing rooms (in the clubhouse) to the field.

Outstanding items from previous weeks

Staffordshire Surge

Coaches box missing , team box missing , no nine yard marks, no numbers. Change to chain crew for second half.

Martin Cockerill #345

25/07/10 v Manchester Titans

Merseyside Nighthawks

Two ball boys were provided, but the second ball boy was also in charge of the down box, which caused some problems regarding down box movement.

Mike Cavanagh #465

08/08/10 v Yorkshire Rams

East Kilbride Pirates

Chain Crew and Ball Boys only made available by home team immediately prior to kick-off - they were experienced so there was no delay to the start of the game. Part of the Chain Crew was changed at half time requiring another briefing prior to kick-off. Towels not provided by home team for wiping of balls and keeping dry.

Mark Snow #430

18/07/10 v Merseyside Nighthawks

Sussex Thunder

Goal crossbar almost certainly more than 10 feet above ground level and uprights only extend a few feet above it. Goals are located about 2 yards beyond the end line. Otherwise excellent facilities with fruit and water in the officials' changing room.

Jim Briggs #31

15/08/10 v London Cobras

Bristol Aztecs

One team area marked (at one end) to the 30-yard line. Otherwise the field markings are perfect. Chain crew and ball boy poor, even making allowances for the heat.

Jim Briggs #31

08/08/10 v London Blitz

Gateshead Senators

This report applies to the youth game played as first of double header. Game played on a multi-use pre-marked astroturf pitch with white soccer markings. No 9 yard marks, team area indicated by 5 a side markings. 90 yard pitch with 8 yard endzones. Goal posts 12 yards from goal line, one set not parallel to end line. In the senior game only one ball boy was provided

Tzvi Lindeman #381

08/08/10 v Doncaster Mustangs

Note: it is possible that any game may be cancelled, or any team may arrange additional games. Any dates mentioned here are intended only as a guide.

END ZONE

PLAY OF THE WEEK:

New this week

Play: A's ball, 4th and 7, on B's 35. QB A17, under heavy pressure on B's 45, dumps the ball to save loss of yardage (intentional grounding). The pass is intercepted by a diving B67 on B's 36 where he is downed. No eligible receiver was in the vicinity let alone have a reasonable opportunity to catch the pass.
Ruling?

Previous week's play

Play: Third and 18 on A's 2. The game clock shows 0:30 in the fourth quarter and the score is A28-B23. QB A18 throws a forward pass that is deflected back to him while in A's end zone. He then throws a pass from A's end zone to A82 at A's 12 that falls incomplete.
Ruling? There are two possibilities, either a safety or A's ball fourth and 18 on A's 2. The second forward pass by Team A is an illegal forward pass. Since the pass was from A's end zone, acceptance of the penalty results in a safety. Also, since the pass was from A's end zone, Team B may decline the penalty and accept the result of the play which is an incomplete forward pass. If Team B decline the penalty in anticipation of getting possession closer to A's goal line with a little more time to score a touchdown, Team A may take the 4th down snap and step on the end line for a safety anyway. This would take a few more valuable seconds off the clock. Team B will probably accept the penalty.
