EXAM 2014

The 2014 exam is now available on the website. All instructions are on the exam, which must be returned by 5:00pm on 10th May at the latest. In exceptional cases, a short extension may be granted at the sole discretion of the Director of Training (training@bafra.org). Please note, no other person has the authority to grant an extension.

Please note that all qualified officials MUST sit the exam; failure to do so will mean the loss of qualified status. Other members are strongly advised to attempt the exam. For associate members in particular, it gives an opportunity to assess your own progress and will allow you to identify any areas of weakness to work on with your mentor.

I will acknowledge papers as they are returned and, as the exam period progresses, I will publish a list of members who have returned their paper.

SENIOR LEAGUE START TIMES

All games will start at 2.30pm with the following exceptions.

Of course it is likely that some games will start slightly later due to an Under-19 game preceding it. Let us know if you are aware of any others.

2014 CONVENTION AND AGM

Every year the Convention gets better and better and I thoroughly enjoyed the weekend. The enthusiasm shown by everyone who attended coupled with the time and effort put in by the presenters went a long way in making it such a success.

Attendance figures are up again on last year and the feedback received so far has actually been overwhelming and very complimentary to everyone involved. It takes a lot of people to help make the Convention successful and I would personally like to thank everyone who gave presentations, led break-out sessions, managed the welcome desk and provided additional support throughout the weekend. There were also a number of people who played a big part in the build up to the weekend and my thanks to them as well.

You will find attached a Convention Feedback Form. I would ask that you all take the opportunity to complete the document and return it to president@bafra.org. Let’s hear about your likes and dislikes. What did you think about the speakers and what you would like to happen next year? We want to tailor the Convention to meet the needs of BAFRA and its members so please take this opportunity to put forward your thoughts and opinions.

NEW RULE BOOK AND MECHANICS MANUAL

A new Rule Book and Mechanics Manual have both been issued. All members who attended the Convention last weekend received theirs there. I have posted out copies to all other qualified and associate members. If you have not received yours within a week or so, please let me know.

BAFRA CHARITY 2014

Members present at the Convention again voted Cancer Research UK as our charity for the coming year. Thanks to all who nominated charities and voted on the day. There will be more information on how we can all be involved in this as the year progresses.

FIELD AUDITS

The is a reminder that a field audit should be submitted for all games in the BAFANL senior and junior leagues. Please ensure that these are included with your post-game paperwork.

CONVENTION PRESENTATION

At the 2014 convention a number of people asked me for a copy of the Breakout session "Decoding the Rule Book" I gave at the 2013 convention. Colin Willox, BAFRA Webmaster, has uploaded the slides & handouts to the members area of the BAFRA website. There's also a video of the breakout session which goes through the slides.

New this week

Bradford Bears

The field was an 80yd field with 2 x 10 yd endzones, on arrival there were no hash marks in the centre of the field; however these were in place just before the scheduled KO time. There were no numbers, 9 yard marks or 3yd PAT marks. The game was delayed by 50 mins due to the non arrival of the ambulance; therefore the game was played 4 x 10 minute quarters. Plaudits to the Chain Crew for being very attentive and professional; the all female Crew shows how a Chain Crew should work the game.
