Issue: 15/14

16th April 2014

EXAM 2014

The 2014 exam is now available on the website. All instructions are on the exam which must be returned by 5:00pm on 10th May at the latest. In exceptional cases, a short extension may be granted at the sole discretion of the Director of Training (training@bafra.org). Please note, no other person has the authority to grant an extension.

All qualified officials MUST sit the exam; failure to do so will mean the loss of qualified status. Other members are strongly advised to attempt the exam. For associate members in particular, it gives an opportunity to assess your own progress and will allow you to identify any areas of weakness to work on with your mentor.

As of 10:00am on Wednesday 15th April I have had the first six exam scripts returned. I will acknowledge papers as they are returned and, as the exam period progresses, I will publish a list of members who have returned their paper.

FINANCE MATTERS

Thank you for your help with paying for the convention and with the university league. Only a few teams owe money and they have indicated that it will be forthcoming this month.

In the Adult leagues the following teams have prepaid: West Coast, Bristol Apaches, Birmingham Bulls, Lancashire (senior and junior), Essex, Bristol Aztec, Sandwell, Burnley Juniors

I will let you know if anybody else prepays.

Please note the account details are on the new invoices if teams don't pay on the day, tell them they have till Thursday to pay but please ensure the invoice is correctly filled out with the total cost and the £25 handling fee which is applicable to any invoice not paid on the day (or prepaid).

BAFANL UNDER 17 TOURNAMENTS ON 26TH /27TH APRIL 2014

The 5 on 5 Tournaments commence the week-end after next. Volunteers are requested to cover these. Please let Tim and me know if you can assist.

New officials, this is an excellent opportunity to gain more experience and develop your skills and confidence. Each event will have 4 teams and 6 matches so you will be kept busy. Tournaments on Saturday 26th April will be at:

Tournament on Sunday 27th April will be at the Watford Cheetahs.

Can all officials please try to cover at least one of these tournaments this season as this is the future of the game and your help is much appreciated by players and coaches.

USE OF ARBITER

After assigning games for 27th April on Arbiter last Monday, eight officials (an unwanted record) have subsequently declined their assignment for this date despite having been shown as available. As we stated at the Convention it is vital that officials update Arbiter to accurately reflect their availability.

Finally if any official, especially in the Midlands or South, is now available on this date then please let Tim or me know as soon as possible as we urgently need available officials.

GAME MANAGEMENT REPORTS

REPORT

NEXT HOME GAME

New this week

Lincolnshire Bombers

This is a 3G 80yd Field with goal posts at one end only. The following lines were missing: 9 yard marks or numbers, Limit Lines, Coaching Boxes and Team Areas. All other lines were marked in RED, the marked end line is too close to the perimeter fence, therefore the end zones were shortened to 8 yards by using the soccer end line.

Chris Jarvis #10

27/04/14 v Oxford Saints

Gateshead Senators

The game was played at Gateshead Stadium Astroturf instead of Gateshead’s normal venue of Monkton Stadium.

There were white soccer markings within one yard of the goal-line (which was also marked in white). There were numbers marked, however they were faded and barely visible. There were no coaching lines or team area markings. The plane of both goals was approximately 8 feet behind the end-line. The ball-persons were only provided a couple of minutes before kick-off. The medical cover (paramedic & ambulance) only arrived at the scheduled kick-off time which resulted in a short delay while they were briefed. Two members of the chain crew and one ball-person did not return immediately after half-time which resulted in a brief delay.

Ben Griffiths #228

20/04/14 v East Kilbride Pirates

Outstanding items from previous weeks - none
