24th April 2014

EXAM 2014

The 2014 exam is now available on the website. All instructions are on the exam which must be returned by 5:00pm on 10th May at the latest. In exceptional cases, a short extension may be granted at the sole discretion of the Director of Training (training@bafra.org). Please note, no other person has the authority to grant an extension.

All qualified officials MUST sit the exam; failure to do so will mean the loss of qualified status. Other members are strongly advised to attempt the exam. For associate members in particular, it gives an opportunity to assess your own progress and will allow you to identify any areas of weakness to work on with your mentor.

As of 11:00pm on Tuesday 22nd April I have had the first nine exam scripts returned. I will acknowledge papers as they are returned and, as the exam period progresses, I will publish a list of members who have returned their paper.

A BIG THANK YOU

Last week in Newsflash I mentioned the need for extra officials to make themselves available this Sunday (27th) due to officials withdrawing from games having been shown available. I am pleased to say that several came forward and we had to reschedule over 25 officials to enable us to cover all the games this weekend. All these officials accepted their new assignments.

On behalf of the BAFRA Directors can I thank all concerned for their flexibility and assistance, it is much appreciated.

DISCIPLINARY REMINDER

A quick reminder that all suspensions must be witnessed to confirm that they have taken place. This is normally the Referee's job.

If there is a suspended person listed in Newsflash for your game, check with his team when you collect the roster that the player is in fact sitting out the game. (If it's a suspended coach or sideline person, then they should be out of the playing enclosure.) Then after the game, please complete the form at http://bit.ly/bafasusp to confirm the fact.

GAME MANAGEMENT REPORTS

NEXT HOME GAME

New this week

Manchester Titans

Field marked were in red paint which stood out well enough to see. However there was a line across both endzones and the hashmarks continued to this line. The red markings continued passed the goalposts, so the rugby markings were used as the endline (giving a 90yd field, with 10yd endzone). The team area/coaches box was only marked between the 40 yard lines, but was extended to the 25 with temporary paint.

John Roberts #145

27/04/14 v Chester Romans

Berkshire Renegades

The field did not have 5 yard lines at every 5 line interval (although there were some) and NFL style hashmarks. This was due to them playing on a temporary field and the contractors who marked the field failing to use the diagram provided by the team.

Keith Wickham #423

11/05/14 v London Olympians

Outstanding items from previous weeks

Lincolnshire Bombers

This is a 3G 80yd Field with goal posts at one end only. The following lines were missing: 9 yard marks or numbers, Limit Lines, Coaching Boxes and Team Areas. All other lines were marked in RED, the marked end line is too close to the perimeter fence, therefore the end zones were shortened to 8 yards by using the soccer end line.

Chris Jarvis #10

27/04/14 v Oxford Saints

END ZONE

Play of the week is suspended during the exam period.
