Outstanding items from previous weeks

Farnham Knights Junior

About 30 minutes before the scheduled kick off the Farnham Head Coach advised us that he was concerned that Colchester did not have sufficient players to comply with the competition requirements. Speaking with the Colchester Head Coach he advised that a car with 3 players had been involved in a traffic incident on the M25 and that left him with 21 players in uniform. It was agreed that the game should proceed, a report submitted and the league would then decide on the outcome.

END ZONE

PLAY OF THE WEEK:

New this week

Play: A's ball, 2nd and 12, on A's 8. A-12 is sacked on A's 2. A-63 holds in A's end zone. Time expires in the quarter. The penalty is accepted.
Ruling?

Last week

Play: With 4 seconds remaining in the game and the score tied, A35 throws a legal forward pass that is intercepted by B22. As B22 is running with the ball, B99 commits a flagrant personal foul at the A45. B22 is downed at the A30, time expires during the play. Ruling?

Ruling: When a foul is committed during a down in which a period ends, the period shall be extended for one more down (3-2-3-a). However, in this case if Team A were to accept the penalty they will give team B one more play from the A45 to try to win the game. Team A will decline the penalty, the game will go into overtime. The penalty cannot be carried over into overtime. B99 is ejected (10-1-1-b).

MECHANICS:

New this week

Game Situation: How many signals should a covering official give when a playing near the sideline either (a) catches a pass inbounds and goes out of bounds (b) catches a pass and is downed inbounds (c) drops a forward pass to the ground. Which signals should be given in each case?

Answer next issue...

Last week

Play: As team A are huddling before a PAT, the Linejudge on a 5 man crew notices that the Referee is rolling his hands above his head. What is the Referee trying to signal? How should the Linejudge respond?
Answer: This is supplementary signal Sup10, signalling that team A are 'going for it' rather than kicking for 1 point. The Linejudge should quickly move so that he is positioned underneath the post on his side of the field. The Backjudge should move across accordingly.
